SalaChat App: Open It in Your Browser, No Store Needed

The SalaChat app is the website itself. Open salachat.cam in the browser you already use, put an icon on your home screen if you like, and you’re a tap away from a one-on-one chat with someone new. There’s no store listing, no download and no update queue.

Can you download SalaChat from an app store?

No, and you don’t need one. SalaChat runs in your phone or laptop browser, so the page you open is the app: the match screen, the people online, your messages and your coins all live there. Add it to your home screen and it opens from an icon like anything else you’ve installed.

SalaChat runs in your browser, so there’s nothing to install, and it’s a good habit not to install files from sources you don’t know. The way in is the browser, starting from the SalaChat home page.

How do you pin SalaChat to a phone’s home screen?

It takes about ten seconds, and it’s the closest thing to installing the app. The steps differ slightly between iPhone and Android, so here are both. Once the icon is there, tapping it opens SalaChat full screen, without the address bar getting in the way.

On an iPhone or iPad (Safari)

Open salachat.cam in Safari. Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up, then scroll down the list and tap “Add to Home Screen”. Keep the name as SalaChat or change it, then tap Add.

On Android (Chrome)

Open salachat.cam in Chrome. Tap the three-dot menu in the top corner and choose “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”, whichever your phone shows. Confirm, and the icon lands next to your other apps.

When the site asks first

SalaChat sometimes shows its own “Add SalaChat to Home Screen” bar at the top of the page. Tapping Add there does the same job as the browser menu.

Removing it later is the same as any icon: press and hold, then delete it from the home screen. Nothing else is left on your phone.

What the browser version can do

Everything SalaChat does is in the web version. It isn’t a cut-down mobile site sitting next to a “real” app somewhere else, because there is no somewhere else. Here’s what you get from the same page you just opened.

The full list of features goes through each of these in more detail, including the things SalaChat deliberately leaves out.

Why use the browser instead of installing something

Mostly for the boring reasons, which are the ones that matter on a full phone. A web app takes almost no storage, so you won’t be deleting photos to make room. It never asks you to update before it’ll open. And if you change phones, there’s nothing to move: open the site on the new one and sign in.

There’s a small privacy upside too. A browser only gets the permissions you hand it, one site at a time, and you can take them back in a couple of taps. Plenty of installed apps ask for contacts, location and storage on day one.

To be fair about the downsides: a home-screen web app can be less eager with notifications than a native one, especially when your phone is busy saving battery. If you’re waiting to hear back from someone you followed, it’s worth opening SalaChat now and then rather than relying on alerts.

Which phones and browsers work best

Any recent phone or computer with a camera, a microphone and an up-to-date browser should be fine. On iPhone, Safari is the one to use, because it’s where “Add to Home Screen” lives. On Android, Chrome is the usual choice. On a laptop, Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all handle the camera well.

If something feels off, the first fix is nearly always updating the browser. The second is closing other apps that might be holding on to the camera, such as a video meeting you forgot to leave. The guide on how SalaChat works has a short list of other quick fixes.

What permissions does it ask for?

Camera and microphone, and only when you need them. Choose Video on the match screen and your browser asks for both; choose Audio and it only needs the microphone; choose Text and it needs neither. Nothing is requested in the background before you start.

You stay in control afterwards. Every browser lets you switch a site’s camera or microphone off in its settings, and you can say no to the prompt and still use the text mode. If a permission was blocked by mistake, the browser’s site settings are where to turn it back on.

Do you have to sign in?

Not to start. You can open the match screen as a guest and meet someone straight away, with no form and no email. The no sign-up guide explains what a guest can do and where the line is.

You’ll be asked to sign in when you want things to stick: sending someone a message, keeping the people you follow, or holding on to your coins between devices. That’s the point where an account earns its place, and you choose when to get there.

Does the SalaChat app cost anything?

It’s free to start. New users get some free matches, and after that matching uses coins. The page on what’s free on SalaChat lays out exactly how free matches, rewards, coins and VIP fit together, so you know before you spend anything.

Questions people ask

SalaChat app questions

Is there a SalaChat app on the App Store or Google Play?

No. SalaChat works in the browser and you add it to your home screen instead of downloading it. Don’t install files from sources you don’t know.

Why is there no download?

SalaChat runs entirely in the browser. You get the camera, the matching and your messages without installing anything, and the home-screen icon makes it feel like anything else on your phone.

Is SalaChat only for random matches?

No. The match screen pairs you with one random person by video, voice or text, but you can also pick someone from the online list, and follow people so you can talk to them again.

How does SalaChat match you with someone?

You choose a mode and tap start, and the next available person is put through. It’s always one person at a time, and you can leave whenever you like.

Will it use up space on my phone?

Barely. A home-screen web app stores very little, there are no large updates to download, and you can remove it like any icon.

Can I use SalaChat on a tablet or laptop too?

Yes. Any device with a camera, a microphone and a current browser works. A laptop is handy for longer conversations because it stands up by itself.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes, in Safari. That’s also where you’ll find Add to Home Screen, under the Share button.

Do I need to give my phone number to use it?

No. A guest can match right away. When you choose to sign in later, you won’t be asked for anything you don’t want to share in a chat.
