What SalaChat Does, and What It Doesn’t

SalaChat is a one-on-one chat with a few well-placed extras. Here’s every part of it on one page, with a link to the guide that covers each piece properly, and a frank list of the things we chose to leave out.

How does random matching work?

The match screen is the front door. At the bottom you pick Video, Audio or Text, then tap Start random chat and you’re put through to one person. Video shows both faces; Audio is voice only; Text pairs you with someone to type to. Whatever you choose, it’s always two people and nobody else, which is the whole idea behind a 1v1 chat.

Matching is quick and doesn’t ask for an account. The page on chatting with no sign-up explains what a guest can do, and how SalaChat works walks through each screen with fixes for a stubborn camera.

The people online, and how to filter them

If you’d rather choose than leave it to chance, open the people online right now. The list has tabs for Popular, Online, New and Following, and a row of language tabs including English, Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, RU/UA, Portuguese, Turkish, French and Italian. Each card shows a country and the languages that person speaks.

Choosing works well when you want to meet new people from a particular place, or practise a language. It’s also the starting point for international friends, which has a time-zone table for working out when someone is likely to be awake.

The video feed

The video feed is a scroll of short clips from people on SalaChat, split into Recommend, Following and Hot. Tap through to a profile from any clip, and from there follow, message or start a video chat. It’s an easy way to get a feel for someone before you say hello.

Can you watch someone live?

Yes, when the site’s Live section is switched on: watch, comment, send a gift, ask for a 1v1. The details are in how SalaChat works, and the entrance is Live in the video feed.

Follow, message, call from a profile

Every profile has Follow, Message and Video chat. Follow puts someone on your Following list so you can find them again; Message starts a conversation that stays in your inbox; Video chat rings that one person. Calls from a profile are video only. Messaging and keeping follows ask you to sign in.

This is the part most chat sites skip, and it’s what SalaChat is built around: turning one good conversation into a second. Read how to make friends online for the full chain, what online friends are for the relationship side, and our conversation starters for what to say in that first message.

How do coins, VIP and rewards work?

SalaChat is free to start: new users get free matches, and rewards pop up now and then. After that, matches use coins, bought in packs from your wallet. VIP is an optional monthly membership that comes with coins. Is SalaChat free? explains each layer, including what you see before anything is charged.

Does SalaChat work on any phone?

It runs in the browser, so any recent phone, tablet or laptop with a camera will do. Add it to your home screen and it opens like an app, with no download and no updates to wait for. The SalaChat app page has the steps for iPhone and Android, and it’s the honest answer to anyone hunting for a friend app that doesn’t need installing.

Safety tools

Report and Block sit on every profile, and you can leave any chat at once without explaining. You can start as a guest, use a nickname, and choose Audio or Text if you’d rather not be seen. The safety guide covers what the other person can see and what to keep off camera, while the privacy policy and Terms of Service set out the rules in full. All our policies are collected in one place.

English and Turkish

SalaChat has a full Turkish side, written for people in Turkey rather than translated line by line. Start at SalaChat in Turkish, or go straight to a topic: rastgele görüntülü sohbet for random matches, yabancılarla görüntülü sohbet for talking to people abroad, birebir sesli sohbet for voice, and ücretsiz görüntülü sohbet for what’s free.

The Turkish guides to the app, making friends, no sign-up, one-on-one chat, how it works and safety match the English ones topic for topic.

What SalaChat doesn’t have

There are no group rooms, because conversations with a crowd rarely turn into friendships. There are no profiles to swipe through; you find out about someone by talking. You can’t start your own live broadcast. And there’s no app-store download, because the browser version is the app.

If you want the reasoning behind those choices, about SalaChat explains them. If you have a feature request, the contact page is where to send it. Every page on the site is also listed on the HTML sitemap, and the home page is the quickest way back to the match screen.

Is SalaChat available in Turkish?

Yes. There’s a full Turkish version with its own guides, and the shared screens such as the match screen switch to Turkish too.
