SalaChat How It Works

How Does SalaChat Work?

SalaChat has three screens that matter: the match screen, where you meet someone at random; the online list, where you pick someone yourself; and a person’s profile, where you follow, message or call them again. Here’s each one in the order you’ll use it, with fixes for the usual hiccups.

How do I video chat on SalaChat?

Open the match screen, leave the mode on Video, tap Start random chat and allow the camera when your browser asks. A moment later you’re face to face with one other person. That’s the whole first call; there’s nothing to fill in beforehand and no account needed to try it.

If you’ve never done a video chat before, sit somewhere with light in front of you, say hello first and ask something easy, like where they are or what time it is there. The page of conversation starters has plenty more if your mind goes blank.

  1. Open the match screen

From the home page, tap Say hello. The match screen opens with Video selected.

  2. Allow camera and microphone

Your browser asks once. Say yes, or pick Audio or Text if you’d rather not be seen.

  3. Tap Start random chat

One person is put through. Say hi, and leave whenever you want.

Where’s the switch for video, voice and text?

At the bottom of the match screen, just above the start button. Video shows your face and theirs; Audio is a voice-only call, with no camera at all; Text matches you with someone to type to. Choose the mode before you tap start.

At the top of the same screen you’ll see History, your call history, plus VIP and your coin balance. If you want to know how a voice match feels, the 1v1 chat guide compares the three modes side by side.

How do I pick someone from the people online?

Open the online list instead of the match screen. Along the top you’ll find Popular, Online, New and Following, and next to them a row of languages: English, Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, RU/UA, Portuguese, Turkish, French and Italian. Each card shows a person’s country and the languages they speak.

Tap a card to open the profile. From there you can follow, message, or start a video chat with that one person. If choosing feels like more work than chance, go back to the match screen; the two paths are compared on the meet new people page.

Following, messages and calls from a profile

Every profile has three buttons: Follow, Message and Video chat. Follow saves the person to your Following list, so you can find them again on the online list. Message opens a conversation that stays in your inbox. Video chat rings that person directly, rather than leaving the next match to chance. Calls from a profile are video; there’s no separate voice button there.

Messaging and keeping follows ask you to sign in, because those things have to be saved somewhere. Random matching doesn’t. The idea of turning a good first call into a second one is what SalaChat is built around, and making friends online walks through it from start to finish.

Watching someone live and asking for a 1v1

The video feed has a Live section where people broadcast to whoever drops in. You can watch, leave a comment that scrolls across the stream, send a gift, and ask for a one-on-one call from inside the room. You can’t start a live broadcast yourself; this part of SalaChat is for watching. To go straight there, open Live in the video feed.

Coins, VIP and rewards

SalaChat is free to start: new users get free matches, rewards pop up now and then, and after that matching uses coins. VIP is an optional monthly membership. The details, including what you’ll see before anything is charged, are on the page about what’s free.

Camera or mic not working?

Nine times out of ten it’s a permission or another app holding the camera. Work through these in order before writing to support; most problems are fixed by the second or third step.

  • Check the permission. Tap the lock or camera icon in the address bar and set Camera and Microphone to Allow for salachat.cam, then reload.
  • Close other video apps. A meeting app, another browser tab or a camera app can keep the camera to itself.
  • Try another browser. On iPhone use Safari; on Android, Chrome. On a computer, Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all work.
  • Check the hardware. On a laptop, look for a camera shutter or a function key that turns the camera off.
  • Restart the browser. If the picture freezes, close it fully and open SalaChat again.

Still stuck? The contact page explains what to send so support can help on the first reply.

How do I report or block someone on SalaChat?

Open their profile and use Report or Block. Report sends SalaChat the reason you pick; Block makes it harder for that person to contact you. You can always just leave a chat first. The safety guide covers this in more detail, along with what’s worth keeping off camera.

Questions people ask

Questions about using SalaChat

How do I video chat for the first time?

Open the match screen, keep Video selected, tap Start random chat and allow the camera. You’ll be put through to one person. No account is needed for that first match.

How can I video chat if my laptop has no camera?

Use Audio or Text on the match screen. Audio needs only a microphone, and Text needs nothing at all. You can switch to Video later on a device with a camera.

Can I switch from video to voice in the middle of a match?

Choose the mode before you start. If you’d rather talk without the camera, end the match and start a new one with Audio selected.

Why did my match end suddenly?

Usually the other person left or one of the connections dropped. It can also happen when free matches or coins run out. Start again and you’ll meet someone new.

Can I call someone I followed?

Yes. Open their profile from your Following list and tap Video chat. That call goes to them only.

Why can’t I go live myself?

The Live section is for watching people who broadcast. Users can watch, comment, send gifts and ask for a 1v1, but can’t start their own broadcast.

Do I need to log in to follow someone?

You can match as a guest, but keeping follows and sending messages ask you to sign in, so they’re saved to your account.

Where do I see my messages?

In your message list, once you’ve signed in. Conversations you start from a profile stay there so you can pick them up later.
