1v1 Video Chat: Just You and One Other Person

Every conversation on SalaChat has exactly two people in it. No group room to wander into, no audience in the corner, no one waiting to talk over you. It’s a 1v1 chat by design, and once you’ve had a few, a crowded group call starts to feel like shouting across a party.

What counts as a 1v1 video chat on SalaChat?

It’s a call with exactly one other person, started on the spot. Two people, one conversation. You see them, they see you, and nobody else is in the conversation or watching it. On SalaChat you get there two ways: a random match from the match screen, or a video chat started from someone’s profile.

The difference from other kinds of video is who else is around. The table below puts the three side by side, because people often mix up a one-on-one call with a live room. In a live room only one person has their cam on, while in a one-on-one call you both do.

Why one-on-one instead of a group call?

Because the conversation gets your full attention and theirs. Nobody grabs the floor, nobody’s performing for the rest of the room, and a slightly odd question only lands with one person. If it falls flat, it falls flat quietly.

It’s also the honest way to find out whether you get on with someone. In a group you learn who’s loudest. In a 1v1 chat you learn whether this particular person makes you laugh, listens back, and asks about you. That’s the bit that leads somewhere, which is why SalaChat leaves group rooms out entirely and puts its effort into making friends online one person at a time.

How do you start a one-on-one call?

From the match screen, it’s three taps: pick Video at the bottom, tap Start random chat, allow your camera. You’re put through to one person. From the online list it’s a little slower but more deliberate: open someone’s profile and tap Video chat, and the call goes to them alone.

Profile calls are video only; there’s no voice-call button on a profile. If you want to call the same person again later, follow them first so they’re easy to find. Free to start: what costs coins after your first matches is laid out on the free and coins page.

  1. Choose Video

The switch is at the bottom of the match screen, next to Audio and Text.

  2. Start the match

Tap Start random chat and allow the camera when your browser asks.

  3. Talk, then decide

Stay, leave, or follow them if you’d like a second conversation.

Can a 1v1 chat be voice or text only?

Yes. The same match screen has Audio and Text next to Video. Audio is a voice-only call with no camera at all, which suits late evenings and bad hair days. A 1v1 text chat pairs you with one person to type to, which is handy on a train or when the house is asleep.

All three modes keep the one-on-one rule. What changes is how much of yourself you show, and you choose that before each match.

Random 1v1 or picking who to talk to

Random is quick and full of surprises: tap start and see who appears. Picking is slower but gives you more say. The online list is sorted into Popular, Online, New and Following, plus language tabs such as English, Spanish, Arabic, Turkish and French, so you can look for someone who speaks your language before you say a word.

Most people do both, depending on the mood. The page on how to meet new people compares the two routes in more detail.

What a good one-on-one chat looks like

Say you match with someone halfway through their evening. You open with where you are and ask what they’re up to; they’re cooking, so you ask what. Ten minutes later you’re comparing how your families make the same dish. Nothing about that needed an audience. Here that’s simply how every conversation works.

Some things help. Keep your camera at eye level, so you’re looking at them rather than up at the ceiling. Let silences sit for a second. And end kindly when it’s time: “I’ve got to go, but this was fun” costs nothing. If you need openers, there’s a whole page of conversation starters.

Can anyone else join or watch your call?

No. A 1v1 call on SalaChat connects two people, and there’s no option to add a third or let someone watch. The only place on the site with an audience is the Live section of the video feed, where you’re the one watching. You can see it in Live on the video feed, and if someone there catches your eye, you can ask for a one-on-one from inside the room.

What the site can’t control is the other person’s own screen; a website can’t stop a screenshot. So treat a video match like any face-to-face chat with someone new, and keep private things off camera. The SalaChat home page has the rest of the basics.

Questions people ask

1v1 chat questions

What’s the difference between a 1v1 chat and a group chat?

A 1v1 chat has two people and nobody else. A group chat shares the conversation with everyone in the room. SalaChat only does one-on-one.

Can I chat 1v1 by text only?

Yes. Choose Text at the bottom of the match screen and you’ll be paired with one person to type to, with no camera or microphone involved.

Is a one-on-one chat private?

Nobody else can join or watch it. The other person still sees and hears everything you share, so keep personal details to yourself.

Does 1v1 work on a phone?

Yes. Open SalaChat in your phone browser and use the front camera. Holding the phone at eye level makes a big difference.

Can I start a 1-on-1 with someone from the online list?

Yes. Open their profile and tap Video chat. That call goes to them only.

Is it like the old random chat sites?

If you remember the one-on-one chats on Omegle, the random match will feel familiar: one stranger at a time. The difference is what comes after: you can follow people and reach them again from their profile.

Can I talk to someone I met before?

Yes, if you followed them. Find them in your Following list, open the profile and start a video chat from there.

Is 1v1 chat free here?

It’s free to start, with free matches for new users. After that, matches use coins.
